Playing instructions for the divisional individual handicap competitions 2nd & 3rd February 2026

Published by Mike Turner

Handicaps will be the 2 nd round Fred Holden ones halved eg 67 handicap will become 33

Matches will be best of 3 games, first to reach 21 points wins. (no tie breaks if 20 all)

We will use the established matrix shown in the Online Handbook on pages 8 & 9 (How to play an individual handicap match) to work out the points difference. A copy will be provided for each table.

Eg Mike‘s Fred Holden handicap of 69 becomes 34 & he plays Harry with a Fred Holden Handicap of 93, which becomes 46. This gives a difference of 12 points to Harry. Check this on the table & it gives Harry an 8 point start. So each game starts 0 to Mike & 8 to Harry.

The better player starts on 0 points

Maximum start will be 16 points

The player with the higher handicap has the choice of serve or ends- so Harry picks serve or ends

Players will have 5 serves at a time (instead of 2)

Players will be drawn in round robin groups with minimal seeding

A point will be given for each game won in the round robin – winner will get 2, loser 1 or 0

Top players in each group will move to a knockout stage. Tied position will be decided by the winner when they played each other.

Practice will be from about 6.30 & matches start promptly from 7.00.

Please phone or text Mike on 07923329920 with as much notice as possible if you have to drop out, as Round Robin Groups may need to be altered.
