An enjoyable and successful Big Day

Published by Mike Turner

A big thanks to everyone who played or spectated at the Big Day on Sunday at HTTC. There was some exciting and skilful table tennis played in a good atmosphere. There were 35 players competing on the day and the Fred Holden Centre was busy and buzzing, with the Viewing Gallery open for spectators.

The semi-finals of the three competitions were very close, as were the finals themselves. In the Plate Vanguard clubmates Ryan Fallon & Scott Fleming battled it out for the trophy with Scotty winning a close match.

The Doubles final between Chris Hall & Daven Argile against Stuart Landes & Tim Vaughan was a brilliant match that swung first one way then the other. A gripping and close encounter ended with Chris & Daven victorious.

The Open Singles final was between Chris Freely and Jason Pilling. An appreciative crowd were treated to many exciting rallies, with some big hitting & amazing returns from both players. In the end Chris was the winner.

It was good to see young Ava Cretney, Sam Bell and James Astle taking part and doing themselves proud.

The Tournament Team would like to thank everyone who assisted on the day as we tried some new things out, especially Chris Freely and Mark Gleave. The new speaker system worked well, especially after Mike remembered how to turn it off between announcments!
