Overall league Summary
The season is in the last month now, and it is looking pretty sure that Ramsbottom ‘A’ spurred on by high performers Martin Wyatt (merit 2nd) and Liam Bedford (merit 4th) will be Premier Division & league champions. The runner up spot is currently held by K.Ward Plumbing who are having a great season (Keith Ward , Keith Jackson :merit 3rd & 5th). It is still possible that Old Masters ‘A’, who boast merit topper Howard Whewell, and Hyndburn TTC ‘A’ with games in hand could also still clinch runners up. Whalley Hawks and Young Ramsbottom both look set for relegation after just one season in the top flight.
In Division One ‘The Lions’ are clear leaders and champions in waiting, and the still unbeaten KSB ‘A’ in second spot will gain the other promotion place, unless a sudden and catastrophic drop in form takes place in the remaining games! Lions Matt Harrison tops the merit table, and team mate Ian Mitchell is 5th . KSB’s Daven Argile is 2nd in the merits and Matt Hodgkinson 4th. The other top 5 merit player is Keith Haworth in 3rd place from Ramsbottom ‘C’ who could finish 3rd when games are caught up with. Its looking like relegation is awaiting bottom placed Tackyfire and Whalley Kestrels just above them.
In Division Two, Ramsbottom ‘C’, have such an assured lead that they can probably start celebrating already. They have had a great season with great form from youngster Harry Bell (merit 2nd) and old hand Stephen Siddall (merit 4th). Best Centre Raptors who were only promoted this season up to Division Two are looking good to gain promotion second season on the bounce, as they still hold a reasonable lead in second spot over Old Masters ‘B’, despite a post-Christmas wobble in which they lost 3 games. KSB ‘B’ had the players in the squad to challenge but have left it just a little too late to get going, though their best player Trevor Elkington tops the individual performers. Other top 5 individual stars are Hyndburners Fred Wade in 2nd spot and Dan Chamberlain in 5th. Fastened firmly at the foot of the table and destined for the drop are KSB ‘C’, and in the other drop zone position is KSB ‘D’ who could still feasibly escape at the expense of Brierfield above them as they have just a 28 points gap but with two games in hand.
In Division Three, Best Centre Phantoms (Scott Fleming merit 1st, Jack Cooney 5th) are still unbeaten and will be walk away winners of the division. The battle for the runners up place though is going to go to the wire as currently Slayers (Peter Booth merit 2nd) are holding the other promotion place, but only by 1 point over Whalley Kites. They still have to play each other and that could be decisive. Two youngsters are doing well, Joe Holt from Hyndburn TTC ‘C’ is 2nd in the merits, and Whalley Merlins Jack Haworth is 4th. Burnley Focus
The Burnley area’s top team is Brierfield in the Premier Division who will be pleased to looking like they will survive and hold onto 7th place.
In Division Two, Best Centre Raptors have steadied the ship after a 3 loss wobble and should be able to hold onto the runners up and promotion place to see that the Burnley area will be represented in Division One next season. One of their losses was in the club derby verses Best Centre Jets who have had a great second half of the season and are currently 5th. Brierfield ‘B’ will have to dig deep to see off the threat of relegation, as they are one place off the drop zone at present with a 28 point gap but the team below have two games in hand.
In Division Three, Best Centre Phantoms are still unbeaten and for sure will win the title by a mile! They also boast some of the best individual players in Scott Fleming topping the individual merit table and Jack Cooney in 4th place. For a Club only in its second competitive season all its players and teams have really come on. Best Centre is open to new players and beginners to join their club on a Monday night (Contact Darren for more info on 07736473609)
Ramsbottom & Rossendale Focus
Ramsbottom ‘A’ led by Martin Wyatt (merit 2nd) and Liam Bedford (merit 4th), are looking likely to be league champions. Ramsbottom ‘B’ are steady in 3rd place currently but likely to finish mid table. Young Ramsbottom are struggling in the Premiership second from bottom and look likely to be relegated.
In Division One, Rossendale boast one of only two league teams still unbeaten in Rawtenstall’s KSB ‘A’ with 14 out of 14 wins, and almost sure of promotion by being runners up (Daven Argile merit 2nd, Matt Hodkinson 4th). Bacup team Doals Marauders will be pleased to be safe to stay up, and are 3rd at the moment but likely to be around mid table by the end. Ramsbottom ‘C’ are doing better than their position seems and with games in hand played will likely be 3rd, inspired by Keith Haworth who is 3rd in the merits.
In Division Two Ramsbottom ‘D’ sit very comfortably on top, largely due to improving youngster Harry Bell 2nd in the individual performers and Stephen Siddall 4th. Rolling Doals of Bacup, are 4th, and KSB ‘B’, who had a first half of the season distater have played more like themselves to rise to 6th currently with Trevor Elkington sitting top of the individual merit table. The other two Division Two KSB teams (‘C’ & ‘D’) do however find themselves at the bottom of the table, though the ‘D’ team may still be able to catch and surpass Brierfield above them as the gap is 28 points but they have two games in hand.
One Ramsbottom team & two Rossendale teams feature in Division Three. Doals Vikings are 4th, Ramsbottom ‘E’ 5th and KSB ‘E’ 7th. Doals duo Ian Mills and Tom Sumner have been unbeaten in doubles so far this season.
