New Feature Player Profile

New Player Profile

Following some recent discussions with other members over a cup of coffee it was felt it might be interesting to introduce a new feature for readers called Player Profile.  Designed primarily as an introduction to fellow TT club enthusiasts, it also provides an opportunity for players to share a little information about themselves including their own personal TT journey, but also of any other hobbies, interests and aspirations they have for the future.

With this in mind can I introduce you to our first pioneering guest player Alison Durrant.

Alison first started playing table tennis with her Dad when she was about 8yrs old  practising in the family garage, and then about once a year on the annual family holiday.

Table tennis was never a major feature in her life but became more prominent just recently when she elected to take early retirement.

She engaged with social media platforms in search of local sporting activities and ultimately joined the group at Hyndburn Leisure Centre about 12 months ago.

Alison received a warm welcome from a long established stalwart of the ELTTL, Harry Rawcliffe who is also a Committee Member & has been something of a guiding light in supporting Alison”s initiation to the Hyndburn ‘Bat and Chat’ community, where she has since become a regular attendee.

One of Alison’s favourite aspects of the twice weekly practise sessions is the opportunity to play against such a wide range of playing styles and skill sets. When practise is over she loves to gather for a catch-up with fellow attendees in the on-site cafe and exchange stories on other interests outside table tennis.

An already very active individual, Alison has many sport & leisure interests including hill walking and skiing and has recently returned from a winter holiday in Sauze d’Oulx, Italy.

She is a member of Rossendale Harriers Running Club and is also an accredited Kayaking and Swimming Coach. Impressive credentials!!

It’s because Alison is so busy that she has no aspiration to be a League player; although on her own admission she has a very strong determination to improve her overall playing standard to League level.

She is hugely appreciative of all the advice, support and coaching she receives from various quarters at Hyndburn and would love to improve her ability to deal with and impart spin as part of her game.Alison recently invested in a Stiga Master Classic Offensive blade combined with Gewo Neoflex rubber on both sides and is endeavouring to master its characteristics.

Thank you Alison for agreeing to be our very 1st Player Profile volunteer and very best wishes for continued enjoyment and success at Hyndburn.
